Mothering Dorothy Mothering Dawn by Dorothy Lemmey, PhD, RN
Pauline Phillips, RDH
Pauline shared a book that she had recently read called Mothering Dorothy Mothering Dawn by Dorothy Lemmey, PhD, RN.

Book Description: After several generations of no role models for mothering, Dorothy Lemmey broke the mold and mothered by instinct. Nurturing her siblings became her responsibility when her chronically ill mother was unable to do so. The oldest of six children, Dorothy learned to feed the family, change diapers, clean the house, do the laundry, and get all the kids to school each day. Despite this overload of responsibility, Dorothy graduated high school in 1965. She gave birth to her one and only child in 1971. When she learned Dawn was profoundly retarded and physically impaired, Dorothy felt compelled to study nursing so she could be the best mother and caregiver possible. She loved and nurtured her daughter for thirty-one years, becoming a nurse and educator of nurses. She credits Dawn with fueling her determination to succeed at mothering and nursing. In honor of her precious daughter, she now shares her story of their struggles and their love.
