Make note of Wednesday night's Board Meeting!
Special Care Advocates in Dentistry (SAID) invites you to our 53rd Annual Seminar in Nashville, TN, October 24-26, 2018.
The theme for the seminar this year is advocacy, with three series of presentations. The "Advocacy through Innovation Series" will include presentations on innovative practices and research to improve the care of patients with special needs.
Topics include the application of teledentistry to special care dentistry, research in Optical Coherence Tomography as an alternative to dental x-rays for patients with developmental disabilities, and the use of a service dog in dental practice for patients with special needs.
This series will also include a literature review and a clinical "Pearls" session where providers can share their own innovations in the care of patients with developmental disabilities and other special health care needs. The "Advocacy through Education Series" will examine how access to dental care for people with developmental disabilities is affected by provider willingness to treat.
A panel of dental educators and students will share their motivations for joining the special care dentistry workforce and how to increase student commitment to the care of patients with disabilities.
Finally, the "Promoting Mental Health and Human Rights Series" will include sessions on trauma-informed dental care, civil rights issues for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and abuse & neglect in vulnerable populations.
