David Itzkoff
DDS
has been the Supervising Dentist at Shapiro Center, a 500-bed residential facility for adults with IDD operated by the State of Illinois in Kankakee for over 30 years. He is a graduate of NYU School of Dentistry. He is a senior fellow of National Academies of Practice where he serves as Chair of the Dental Academy and is a Diplomate and immediate past president of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry. He has been a proud member of SAID for 30 years and hasn’t missed a meeting yet.

Lisa E Stillman
RDH, BS
is a Regional Education Manager for Xlear Inc. She teaches health professionals the general and dental health benefits of quality xylitol products with presentations and literature and assists dental offices in incorporating xylitol into the dental hygiene protocol.
Lisa has practiced dental hygiene in Maryland and Virginia. She developed an organization called “Dental Voice for Mental Health” that assists mental health care recipients in caring for their oral health with awareness and education. Lisa writes articles and is featured in dental and mental health publications.

Maria Therese Galang-Boquiren
DDS
is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago, Department of Orthodontics. She took a keen interest in dental sleep medicine more than ten years ago and has collaborated with the medical profession through research and clinical care since then. Apart from teaching predoctoral dental students and orthodontic residents, she works in private practice and holds a hospital appointment at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

completed her Dental Hygiene Degree at Guilford Technical Community College, her B.S. studies at the Univ. of NC School of Dentistry and maintains her Fellowship in Dental Hygiene from Special Care Dentistry. She has spent her entire career in Special Care Dentistry and is currently a hygienist and Chief Operating Officer for Access Dental Care. She has served on boards and task forces from local to national levels to support dental providers serving patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as those with mental health disorders

Joon H. Han
MS, DDS, FACP
opened Scharrington Dental in 2009 to provide superior dental care for patients of all ages in Schaumburg, IL and surrounding areas. Dr. Han received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry and Music from Illinois Wesleyan University, and his Masters Degree in Chemistry from University of Illinois – Chicago. He then continued on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from University of Illinois – College of Dentistry.
Dr. Han is proud to be a Diplomate of American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of American College of Prosthodontists. Currently, Dr. Han is one of 31 Board Certified Prosthodontists in the State of Illinois.
As an expert in implant, veneer, crown, bridge, denture, cosmetic, and restorative procedures as well as a master coordinator with specialists such as oral surgeons, periodontists, endodontists and orthodontists, his goal is to provide the most comprehensive care to his patients and his community.

John Blair
MD, FACC
is an interventional cardiologist at University of Chicago Medicine. His clinical interests include coronary physiology, complex coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, and valvular heart disease. He offers a robust line of clinical services such as coronary physiology testing, advanced hemodynamics, percutaneous mitral valve repair, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, and recanalization of chronic total occlusions. He has extensive research experience in the areas of heart failure, hemodynamics, and coronary physiology, resulting in multiple peer-reviewed papers, review articles, and book chapters. He has participated as the local PI in several randomized clinical trials in coronary microvascular dysfunction, obstructive coronary artery disease, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and device-based therapies for congestive heart failure.

Angie Stone
BS, RDH, BLS, CDP
began her career in the United States Navy as a Dental Technician. Her assigned mission was to help keep her fellow sailors dentally ready for deployment. After her enlistment, she completed degrees in dental hygiene and psychology. Shortly thereafter she was assigned another mission. This one she didn’t sign up for. It picked her.
Through personal and professional experiences, she has spent the last 19 years focused on the dental health of elders. Through her company, best selling book, “Dying from Dirty Teeth”, and lectures across the country, she has made an impact on how elders are understood and cared for by the dental profession.
Her work with elders exposed her to many patients with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). In addition, her family is experiencing their third generation of AD. Angie is now bringing education on the topic to dental professionals in hopes her journey will continue to help others.

Steven Beetstra
DDS
received his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1990. He then served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Public Health Service until 1999. While in service, he created needs based programs for pediatric, Native American, migrant, and medically complex patients in Oregon, Florida, and North Carolina. For his efforts, Dr. Beetstra received an Outstanding Service Medal, the highest award granted by the Service and was recognized by the National Health Service Corps as a Healthcare Hero.

is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington and Director of the UW Dental Education in the Care of Persons with Disabilities Program. She is past President of Special Care Advocates in Dentistry and currently serves as President-Elect of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry.

Douglas Veazey
DDS
is a dentist at the Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center in North Carolina. Dr. Veazey was the Dental Director at Broughton Hospital, Morganton for 31 years. He has served over 20+ years at Good Samaritan Dental Clinic, a non-profit that serves indigent patients in Burke County. He and Dr. Levi have been kind enough to take on reviewing published literature that references dental patients with special needs, and to provide to attendees a summary of relevant articles.
