Great meeting in Savannah! thanks to all who participated in pulling it together. Congratulations to our new President, Betsy White. During one of the sessions, we discussed the ruling on the part of the Texas Board of Dental Examiners to require certain training in order to use Protective Stabilization devices. Here is a link to the actual regulation, Rule 22, Administrative Code 108.14: https://texreg.sos.state.tx.us/public/readtac$ext.TacPage?sl=T&app=9&p_dir=N&p_rloc=168945&p_tloc=&p_ploc=1&pg=7&p_tac=&ti=22&pt=5&ch=108&rl=8
Responses:
If I am reading this correctly, section (c)(11)(D) precludes using stabilization devices for almost all procedures that we might perform on patients with disabilities. Any immobilization is now forbidden for routine treatment. Is this the interpretation from anyone else? by: Thomas Butler tlbdmd@yahoo.com on: 2016-11-17
Tom: I think section (c)(11)(D) is trying to say that you shouldn't use protective stabilization as a way of getting many procedures done in one sitting. There have been some complaints about that in recent years, usually directed at Group Dental Practices. It might be section 10 E that keeps 11 D from being more limiting. by: Carolyn Fetter carolyn@specializedcare.com on: 2016-11-17
